Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet town which is situated on the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. For those who don't know, the West Island tend to think it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal but in fact there is a lot more to it. West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this is not the truth. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa located in Ontario. She was determined to become a professional dancer but because of a huge development spurt, she exceeded the size of her dancing colleagues. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. As soon as I was able to outgrow male friends, I began to stop. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of the drama instructor at her high-school that led her to pursue acting. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to try her hand at a character in the annual school production. A teacher suggested that she pursue a role in the school's annual show. This resulted in an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Through the years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on the small and big screens attracting the most attention after she landed the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series and rarely seen.
