Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community located in the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. Many people who don't know they mistakenly believe the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact the West Island includes everything westward of Montreal, including the town of Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to originate from the West Island. However, this is not true. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. She had a dream to become a dancer, but the growth rate of her body meant she literally outgrew her dance partner. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that, in her heels, she stood 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting and Brugel was not an exception. An instructor in drama at her high school pushed her in the direction she needed. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the school's annual production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It was her turn to be awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years the career of Brugel has seen her perform in more than 60 TV and film productions. The most well-known role was that of Rita (shown here) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen in a few episodes.
