Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a small community that lies on the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. In reality, the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large section that extends from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. However, this does not exist. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. She had a dream to become a professional dancer but due to an explosive increase in her height, she surpassed all of her dancing partner. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. After I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, which is what Brugel did. An instructor in drama at her high school helped push Brugel in the direction she was looking for. She was encouraged to participate in her school's production. A teacher suggested that she play a character in the school's annual production. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on both screens, receiving the most media attention, when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared at times.
