Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet town situated on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's Island. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a huge region that runs from Lachine to the west. It is often cited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was short. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She wanted to become a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she surpassed all of her dancing friends. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. After I outgrew my male partners I stopped. Many former dancers turn into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who encouraged her to go in the right direction. It was her teacher who advised her to audition in the role of Anne for their school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual play. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on both screens, receiving the most media attention, when she was offered the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian of the season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
