Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community which is situated on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's Island. People unfamiliar with the term often think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. It is often cited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was short. Brugel was born in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Early ambitions were to be a performer, but she grew beyond her dance partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 feet 1 inch tall. As soon as I was able to outgrow male friends, I stopped. For Brugel, it was her encouragement from the drama instructor at her high school, which prompted her to begin acting. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the annual school production. She threw herself into it and eventually got the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. For the last two decades, Brugel's career has seen her appearing in a variety of films and television productions. The most well-known role was that of Rita (shown beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian for the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
